No. 13: Jeff Kent

A 20th-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays, Kent reached the majors at age 24 only to be traded to the New York Mets later that season for All-Star pitcher David Cone. However, his career really didn’t take off until he joined the San Francisco Giants in 1997 and hit cleanup behind Barry Bonds.

The pair made a formidable middle-of-the-lineup duo for the next six seasons, with Kent averaging .297, with 29 homers and 115 RBI over that span -- and edging Bonds for the 2000 National League MVP award.

offensive numbers for a second baseman, hitting at least 20 homers in 12 seasons and finishing with 377 home runs – a record 351 of them coming as a second baseman.
